pele had won 3 world cups with brazil and scored loads of goals for brazil and his club santos but he was a great player in a great brazilian side that could have played without him,but he can never be judge fully because he only played in the american and brazilian league.
maradona was the man behind argentina without him his team was nothing.
yes he cheated against us in the 1986 world cup with the so called hand of god goal but the second goal in that match was probably the best goal ever scored.
not only did he play for boca juniors but he was a giant in european football playing for barcelona in spain and napoli in italy.even though he was surrounded by controversy he produced great results for club and country he was one man that can change a football match and he did it time after time.
george best was a genius but playing for northen ireland held him back at international level and his football career was short lived due to his unability to control his drink problem. he could have been better than pele and maradona put together but we will never know as he was wasted.
so i would have to say maradona is the best because he conquered world football , south american football and unlike pele european club football.
